As we all know, there are a lot of different types of movies. Each movie slots into a certain genre giving the viewer a vague idea of what to expect. A genre is the type of movie that the film is themed of, for example Indiana Jones is an adventure whereas SAW would be a Horror. Some films are not suitable for our age but as we are all teens and we don't really care,we would watch it anyway. Just to be on the safe side, check IMDb so you can decide if it is suitable for yourself.


Types of genres ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

Now you may not know but there are 19 genres of film! Goodness, that's a lot. I will go through each one and vaguely explain what they are, and a few movies to watch from each one. There is one more Genre I have thrown in that isn't a real one! Here we go...


Action ๐Ÿš“

An action movie is an a film which causes adrenaline. Adrenaline is a hormone that causes you heartbeat to speed up and maybe even sweat. These types of movies, usually have high speed car chases, chases in general and often involve guns and weapons. Some great movies to see are: Die Hard, Terminator, Jumanji and The Matrix.


Adventure ๐Ÿฑโ€๐Ÿ‘ค

An adventure film is another film that can cause adrenaline. These movies usually contain guns, chases, new places and tons and tons of exploration! Adventure movies could be set in a cave, an ancient temple or even in a different time period! Good movies to watch are: Jurassic Park, Back to the Future and The Goonies.


Animation ๐Ÿ“ท

Animations are movies that use stop motion or a series of moving images like in a flip book. You can create simple animations in the comfort your own home! Just get some toys or some household objects and a phone/camera to create your own stop motion movie! Cool movies to see include: Coraline, Wreck-it-Ralph and Inside Out.


Biography ๐Ÿ“š

You should know, biographies are books people write about their own lives or other peoples lives. So in the biography genre, these are films about other people. They will reveal things about other people that you may not know and give insights into what their lives might have been like. Fabulous films to watch in this genre are: Chaplin, Rocket Man and Bohemian Rhapsody.


Christmas ๐ŸŽ„

Christmas films are not a movie genre but, seeing as it is almost Christmas, I may as well pop them in. Seeing as you know Christmas films are set in November-December and have kisses under the mistletoe etc. I will just say... Seasonally festive movies to see include: The Polar Express, Home alone and The Nightmare Before Christmas.


Comedy ๐Ÿคฃ

As you all will know, comedy has lots of humor. These types of films can have adult humor, crude humor, childish humor and well... inappropriate humor. For those that don't know, crude means constructed in a rudimentary or makeshift way. Hilarious Films to watch are: Spy, Daddy's Home and Hot Fuzz.


Crime ๐Ÿ”Ž

Crime films are a cinematic genre inspired by and analogous to the crime fiction literary genre. Films of this genre generally involve various aspects of crime and its detection.

These movies will have guns, blood and maybe even a bit of gore. Movies so good its a crime are: Murder on the Orient Express, The Wolf of Wall Street and Murder Mystery.


Drama ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

In film and television, drama is a genre of narrative fiction intended to be more serious than humorous in tone. TV Soaps (Like East Enders) are dramas too as something dramatic happens each episode. Seriously fantastic films you need to see include: Forest Gump, 12 Years a Slave and Schindler's List.


Family ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง

A family film, is a film genre that contains children or relates to them in the context of home and family. Children's films come in several major genres like fantasy, adventure, war, musicals, comedy, and literary adaptations. Simply exquisite films to see in this category include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, ET and Coco.


Fantasy ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ

A fantasy film is a genre that incorporates imaginative and fantastic themes. These themes usually involve magic, supernatural events, or fantasy worlds. The settings for these could be a forest, a castle or maybe a cave behind a waterfall! Unlike science fiction, a fantasy film does not need to be completely realistic. This element allows the audience to be transported into a new and unique world. Magical movies to watch are: The Wizard Of Oz, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Harry Potter.


History ๐Ÿ“œ

A historical film is a fiction film showing past events or set within a historical period. This extensive genre will have no modern technology and may even have the old English language and even executions! Historical insights thou shalt see: Dunkirk, Titanic and Suffragette.


Horror ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

We all know what a horror movie is. Guts and gore, jump scares, that tingle down your spine and even sweats. But let's go to our trusty and faithful friend, Google (Just to be on the safe side!) . It is quoted " A horror film is a film that seeks to elicit fear for entertainment purposes. Horror films often aim to evoke viewers' nightmares, fears, revulsion and terror of the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage into the everyday world." Terrifyingly amazing movies to cower from include: The Blair Witch Project, Psycho and Shaun of the Dead.


Musical ๐ŸŽธ

Musical theater is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. The story and emotional content of a musical โ€“ humor, pathos, love, anger โ€“ are communicated through words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole. Films that are music to the ears are: Phantom of the Opera, Little Shop of Horrors and Matilda.


Mystery โ“

A mystery film is a genre of film that revolves around the solution of a problem or a crime. It focuses on the efforts of the detective, private investigator or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of an issue by means of clues, investigation, and clever deduction. Secretive movies to watch include: Sherlock, Sherlock Gnomes and Murder on the Orient Express.


Romance ๐Ÿ’–

Ooh! Lovey dovey romance and kissing. We all will know what romance is so lets go to Google again! "Romance films or romance movies are romantic love stories recorded in visual media for broadcast in theaters and on TV that focus on passion, emotion, and the affectionate romantic involvement of the main characters and the journey that their love takes them through dating, courtship or marriage.". Sexy films to see are: Titanic, Love Actually and Dirty Dancing


Sci-fi ๐Ÿค–

Science fiction films are a genre that uses speculative, fictional science-based depictions of phenomena that are not fully accepted by mainstream science, such as extraterrestrial lifeforms and alien worlds. Some extra terrestrial movies to see include: Red Dwarf (even though its a TV series), Avatar and Star Wars


Sport ๐Ÿˆ

Sport movies are about well... sport. These can be about any sport and can be fake but are usually real events. Sporty films to watch include: Creed, Eddie the Eagle and Rocky.


Thriller ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Thriller is a genre of fiction, having numerous, often overlapping sub genres. Thrillers are characterized and defined by the moods they elicit, giving viewers heightened feelings of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation and anxiety. Thrilling films to see are: Inception and Jaws.


War ๐Ÿ‘Š

War films are a genre filled with warfare, usually about naval, air, or land battles, with combat scenes central to the drama. It has been strongly associated with the 20th century. The fateful nature of battle scenes means that war films often end with them. Conflicting war films you need to watch include: Dunkirk, The Pianist and The Diary of Anne Frank.


Western ๐Ÿค 

Howdy Partner! Western Film is a genre that revolves around stories primarily set in the late 19th century in the American Old West. Most Westerns are set between the American Civil War (1865) and the early 1900s. ... American Western Film usually revolves around a stoic (a person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or complaining) hero and emphasizes the importance of honor and sacrifice. Western movies to see are: The Lone Ranger, Back to the Future Part III and Rango.
